E-waste and Appliances Collected for Recycling at San Jose Sharks Event Raise Funds for Charity

San Jose, Calif. – Sims Recycling Solutions, the global leader in electronics reuse and recycling, Sims Metal Management and the San Jose Sharks held an electronics and appliance collection event on March 30, 2013, at San Jose’s HP Pavilion  to benefit Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco, a charity chosen by Sharks forward and alternate captain Patrick Marleau. The good event turnout and the amount of  material collected for recycling helped to raise $2,500 for the organization.

Fans who dropped off their electronic waste for recycling were allowed to watch the San Jose Sharks pregame morning skate and had the opportunity to enter a raffle for prizes that included a chance to win San Jose Sharks tickets, a Zamboni ride and exclusive autographed merchandise and memorabilia. Participants in last month’s event dropped off nearly 10,000 pounds of electronics and appliances during the four-hour event.

“Reusing or recycling 10,000 pounds of electronic waste is equivalent to planting 290 trees,” stated Steve Skurnac, President, Sims Recycling Solutions. “We are pleased with the San Jose community’s commitment to help the environment and a worthy cause by bringing their old electronics to this event. We also want to thank the Sims Metal Management, San Jose Sharks and HP Pavilion for working with us to raise this donation for Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco.”

“The families we serve are coping with the life-threatening illness or injury of a child.  All of us at the Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco thank Patrick Marleau and his family, the Sharks Foundation and Sims Recycling Solutions for standing beside these families and supporting them at the most challenging time in their lives,” said Lois Moore, Executive Director, Ronald McDonald House SF.

“The Ronald McDonald House in San Francisco is really close to my heart, so I’m grateful to Sims Recycling Solutions for making a generous $2,500 donation to help youth and their families in need,” said Patrick Marleau.

All electronic devices collected during this event were transported to a local Sims Recycling Solutions facility for recycling. Sims has the global reach, expertise and infrastructure necessary to guarantee that all data is secure and all electronic equipment is processed in the most environmentally responsible manner. Sims Recycling Solution is a proud sponsor of the San Jose Sharks.
