Grainger & Worrall and SinterCast join forces to provide rapid prototyping in Compacted Graphite Iron In support of the increased development activity for compacted graphite iron (CGI) powertrain components, Grainger & Worrall of Stanmore, England, and SinterCast of Stockholm, Sweden, have joined forces to provide rapid CGI prototyping to the passenger car and commercial vehicle industries. The combination of state-of-the-art design capabilities, pattern making and casting facilities at Grainger & Worrall with SinterCast's well established CGI process control technology and metallurgical know-how, provides the ability to supply high quality CGI cylinder blocks, heads and other prototype components within 8 weeks of receipt of the original design. "The alliance provides an important new bridge between the initial CGI design activities and the ultimate series production. It allows car and truck manufacturers to proceed with prototype production before having chosen a production foundry or for the production foundry to participate directly in the prototype development phase to ensure an efficient transfer to series production" said Edward Grainger, Executive Director - Business Development, Grainger & Worrall. "We are very pleased to establish this alliance which will greatly accelerate the CGI development process. The introduction of the SinterCast technology at Grainger & Worrall allows CGI prototypes to be produced with high volume process control technology ensuring that design engineers receive the necessary early feedback to optimise their CGI components" said Bertil Hagman, President & CEO, SinterCast. Grainger & Worrall is a leading prototype and limited raw production foundry. With customers including Ford, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler, Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce and Jaguar Racing, Grainger & Worrall supports the development of more than 30 new engine programmes per year. Their facilities are capable of producing components in grey iron, ductile iron, aluminum, and now, CGI. SinterCast is the world's leading supplier of automated on-line process control systems for the reliable high volume production of CGI. With production installations at seven foundries in six countries, SinterCast's customers include Audi, Caterpillar, Daros Piston Rings, Rolls-Royce Allen Diesel and the SKF Group.
