Mid-City Foundry Company orders SinterCast Mini-System 3000 for increased Compacted Graphite Iron series production
* Mini-System 3000 to be installed before year-end
* Ongoing production of industrial power components ranging from 100 to 550
kg
[Milwaukee and Stockholm, 21 November 2011] - Following three years of niche
volume production of Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) cylinder heads, compressor
housings and other bespoke components for the industrial power industry, Mid-
City Foundry Company, Milwaukee, USA, has ordered a process control system from
the Swedish CGI process control specialist, SinterCast. The Mini-System 3000,
which will be installed during December 2011, supersedes the need for
SinterCast's on-site engineering support for each CGI casting session and
provides Mid-City with fully independent CGI series production capability. The
CGI components produced at Mid-City Foundry range from 100 to 550 kg (220# to
1200#) and are all used in the demanding industrial power sector, particularly
for the off-shore oil and gas industries. All of the CGI components produced at
the Mid-City Foundry Company conform to the international ISO 16112 standard for
Compacted Graphite Iron.
"We have worked together with SinterCast since 2004 and have combined their CGI
process control know-how with our specialty alloy melting and molding experience
to establish an efficient and robust CGI production process" said Mr Richard
Wieland, President of Mid-City Foundry. "As the market demand for high quality
CGI components continues to increase, we have invested in a permanent
installation of the SinterCast process control technology to increase our
production capability and to improve the flexibility and leadtime with which we
can serve our customers."
"Building the successful CGI production history at Mid-City, we will pre-
programme all of the current product calibrations into the Mini-System 3000
control software to provide a seamless and rapid transition to fully independent
series production" said Dr Steve Dawson, President & CEO of SinterCast. "We
look forward to continuing to work together with Mid-City to develop new CGI
product opportunities and applications."
