SinterCast: Da Shiang Precision increases SinterCast-CGI series
production
* Series production of turbocharger housings for Renault
* High volume integrated exhaust manifold/turbocharger housing
production for Volkswagen
* Increased SinterCast-CGI production volumes in China
Da Shiang Precision Co., Ltd, a member of the Taiwanese Mei Ta
Industrial group, has significantly increased series production of
Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) exhaust components using the Swedish
SinterCast process control technology. The production of
Silicon-Molybdenum (SiMo) alloyed CGI turbocharger housings began
during autumn 2007, and the current annualised production rate has
grown to more than 100,000 castings per year. The fully machined
turbocharger housings are supplied to BorgWarner in Europe for
assembly and ultimate use in Renault passenger vehicle applications.
In addition to the initial Renault production, Da Shiang Precision
has received a high volume series production order for SiMo-CGI
integrated exhaust manifold/turbocharger housings. These components
will be delivered to both BorgWarner and Honeywell in Europe for
assembly and ultimate use in Volkswagen passenger vehicles. Series
production began during October 2008 and the mature volume is
expected to reach approximately one million castings per year.
Mr Y.S. Chen, President of Mei Ta Industrial Co., Ltd said:"Following the installation of the SinterCast process control
technology in 2006, our CGI development efforts have resulted in a
highly efficient and robust CGI series production process. We are
confident that our initial series production activities will further
increase the confidence in the Mei Ta Group as a high-volume supplier
of SiMo-CGI exhaust manifolds and turbocharger housings, leading
toward additional series production commitments. We are committed to
establishing the Mei Ta Group as the Chinese market leader for the
production and export of SiMo-CGI exhaust manifolds and turbocharger
housings."
Dr S. Dawson, President & CEO of SinterCast said: "We are pleased
that the successful development efforts put forth by the Da Shiang
engineering team has been rewarded with these high volume series
production orders. With a near-term potential of more than one
million CGI castings per year (>100,000 Engine Equivalents per year),
the Da Shiang orders provide high volume production for
SinterCast-CGI beyond the core cylinder block and head sector, and an
important reference for the SinterCast technology as we continue to
support the development of CGI in the Chinese market."
