Carnaby Christmas Installation Pioneers Light and Sound Technology
Carnaby is famous for its unique Christmas installations and this year the decorations feature spectacular oversized gold mistletoe chandeliers, each housing 22 colour-changing ‘berries’ that are co-ordinated to music, integrating the latest in sound and light technology throughout the festive period.
The Carnaby Christmas decorations bring the streets to life with three oversized mistletoe chandeliers that play the iconic Christmas song by The Ronettes ‘I saw Mommy Kissing Santa’, with the berries changing colour and flashing to the beat of the music. This sound and light performance takes place every hour throughout the day, creating a festive vibe throughout the street for shoppers to enjoy and making it the perfect place for a Christmas kiss.
In between the mistletoe chandeliers and throughout the rest of the 12 streets of Carnaby, 25 oversized holographic holly leaf chains with glowing red berries are suspended above the streets in zig-zag formations, creating a spectacular display throughout the day and night.
Visitors can enjoy a Winter Wonderland in Kingly Court with thousands of sparkling lights over the 3 floors of this stunning courtyard. With its temporary roof and outdoor heaters, the courtyard is the perfect place for coffee or dinner during the winter months. Over in the Newburgh Quarter, traditional, illuminated Christmas trees adorn streets.
Carnaby is known for unique independent stores, unusual boutiques, global fashion brands, award winning restaurants and hip nightlife, making it London’s most exciting shopping destination. More than 60% of the 135 stores in the Carnaby area are independent, with new design talent nurtured in Kingly Court and a diverse collection of creative happenings and unique concepts in the Newburgh Quarter.
The decorations will be in place until 3 January 2012. and are designed by James Glancy Design Ltd.
