Prof Chris Riley, independent filmmaker from London, UK has raised almost $5000 from contributors in over 20 counties as a direct result of his own crowd funding campaign, which is currently running on www.indiegogo.com/firstorbit

'First Orbit’ celebrates Yuri Gagarin’s historic space flight, orbiting the Earth in 1961, and has received over 3.5 million views on YouTube, since its premiere last year, resulting in repeated requests from people around the World for a multi-language DVD and BluRay version to be created.

Chris says “it was never our intention to make a DVD or BluRay when we started out but after receiving so many requests from around the world we new we had to at least try and raise the budget.  I’m absolutely delighted that so many people have understood the importance of remembering Yuri’s pioneering flight over 50 years ago, and having now raised almost $5000 we have already started production of the discs.

The crowd funding campaign still has six days left to run and all interested parties still wishing to support Professor Riley and ‘First Orbit’ can do so by going to www.indiegogo.com/firstorbit where they will have the opportunity of adding their names to the film’s credits in return for sponsoring the film.  Sponsorship opportunities include anything from the donation of $1 to pre-ordering the DVD or BluRay copies of ‘First Orbit’.  There is also a $15000 corporate title sponsorship package availible, for which Chris has even pledged to present a free lecture on the making of the film, anywhere in the World.

This will be the first time the story of Gagarin’s complete spaceflight, in his own words (Russian), will be accessible in 30 languages, bringing the experience of human kind’s first space flight to the widest audience in history.
