A Taste of Spain 2011 brings yet another first to Regent Street and London’s West End when the “TAMBORRADA DE SAN SEBASTIÁN” perform live for the first time ever outside of San Sebastian, Spain.

Wearing traditional costume and delivering powerful percussive rhythms, the sixty-eight drummers will entertain at the festival on Sunday 5 June 2011 between 12noon and 7pm with their long-established routines.

Annie Walker, Director of the Regent Street Association says; “Every year Spain brings new and exciting content to their festival on Regent Street and this year the drummers from San Sebastián are sure to be popular with everyone.”

Other Spanish activities will include the return of the dancing horses from the Balearics, giant paellas from Valencia and flamenco dancers from Andalucía.

The traffic free festival is the perfect family day out for anyone interested in celebrating Spain’s culture. With over 14 million British visitors to Spain in 2010 this one day event on Regent Street is definitely an awaited date in the diary for many Londoners. Last year’s event saw over 300,000 people joining in the Spanish fun on Regent Street.

Medieval food markets and a range of interactive challenges demonstrating Spain’s vast sports offer will also help to create a Spanish fiesta for all, not forgetting the quality fashion and lifestyle shopping offer with many of the Regent Street retailers and restaurants creating special celebratory offers for the event.

Notes to Editors

Each year on 20 January (the feast of Saint Sebastian), the people of San Sebastian celebrate a festival known as the "Tamborrada". For 24 hours, day and night, the entire city is awash with the sound of drums. The adults, dressed as cooks and soldiers, march in different companies across various parts of the city with different schedules. The celebration finishes at midnight when the city flag is lowered at different spots, while the main meeting point remains at the Konstituzio Plaza.
