This spring, London’s premier shopping destination, Regent Street, will showcase a number of inspiring architectural installations created by some of the world’s best up-and-coming architects in partnership with RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects).

Now in its third year, this initiative fuses cutting edge architecture with unique retail design to create a street wide outdoor exhibition. The Regent Street Windows Project will be on display every day from 16 April to 6 May 2012.

Tamsie Thomson, Director of RIBA’s London Region, says: “RIBA London is proud to be linking fashion and retail on the world’s most prestigious shopping street. Architects in London are world-renowned for their creativity. We are delighted to be able to share their work with visitors to Regent Street”.

This year’s theme is ‘Play’, and a number of Regent Street retailers have already signed up, including Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Swarovski Crystallized, Folli Follie, Reiss, Bose, Ferrari, Moss Bros and T M Lewin.

Architect Ian McChesney, who teamed up with Levi’s as part of last year’s project,, says: “This was an initiative where RIBA actively engaged with its members to show people what architects can do – and not through rhetoric but by actually building things in a high profile central London shopping street”.

Mark Neilly, Brand Presentation Manager at Levi’s, says: “We were thrilled to be part of the Regent Street Windows Project. It provided us with the opportunity to showcase the Levi’s brand in a new and different way, working alongside local architects who share a deep passion for innovation and craftsmanship.”

This year’s final list of architects and their partner retailers will be announced in March 2012.

Annie Walker, Director of the Regent Street Association, said: “The RIBA Regent Street Window Project is such a great idea; fun for the architects and for the retailers.  It certainly increases footfall adding another dimension to shopping.  Now in its third year, the project has become an annual event in the Regent Street calendar and the number of participating retailers has grown from five to fifteen”.
