Skanska and Costain secure Coventry shopping centre order for GBP 21 M, SEK 290 M Skanska and Costain have secured a contract to expand and renovate a shopping centre in Coventry in the UK. The order is valued at GBP 21 M, approximately SEK 290 M. The customer is the UK Arrowcroft real estate company. The assignment is being carried out in a 50-50 consortium with Skanska's UK partner, Costain. Lower Precinct, which is one of the UK's oldest shopping centres comprising about one quarter of Coventry's city centre, will now undergo complete renovation. Parts of the historically valuable 1950s interior will be preserved. The modernized centre will have a total retail space of 40,000 sq. m. and an entirely new multi-level parking for 350 cars is being constructed. The tenants include TG Hughes, H&M, C&A and Boots, as well as a number of other highly reputable companies. "This assignment is recognition of our expertise in the retail and shopping centre sector. In London, we are currently working on The Chimes, which will become an entirely new district centre in Uxbridge. We recently handed over the first phase of this SEK 900 M project," says Lars Johansson, President of Skanska UK.
