Skanska awarded bridge contract in Poland valued at SEK 364 M Skanska's Polish subsidiary Exbud Skanska has received a contract to design and construct the "Millennium Bridge" in Wroclaw in southwestern Poland. The contract is valued at EUR 39 M, about SEK 364 M. The customer is the Streets Department of the City of Wroclaw. The Millennium Bridge spanning the Oder River is part of a new bypass highway around Wroclaw. The 972-meter bridge will have four lanes and separate pedestrian and bicycle lanes. The bridge, which is the first to be built in Wroclaw in 50 years, will ease the traffic congestion on the city's central bridges. Exbud Skanska's bridge-building unit has a high level of bridge-building skill, documented most recently in a bridge project that was completed in record time in central Krakow. The technical expertise and experience in bridge building was a strong contributing factor to Exbud Skanska being chosen for the design, engineering and implementation of the project on a turnkey basis. Design work is beginning immediately and construction will start in the spring of 2002, with completion scheduled for September 2004.
