Skanska awarded college contract in UK for GBP 33 M, about SEK 355 M

Skanska has been awarded a contract for design and construction of the South Essex College of Further & Higher Education’s new Thurrock Campus in Grays, Essex. The contract value is GBP 33 M, about SEK 355 M, which is included in order bookings for Skanska UK for the third quarter 2012.

The construction will begin immediately with the new campus being ready to move into in the summer of 2014. 

Under the contract, Skanska will be responsible for the development of the new campus covering an area of approximately 15,000 square meters, which will include one three storey and one four storey college building.  When complete, the new facility is set to provide a state of the art learning facility that will create better learning opportunities for young people and businesses across the local community.

Skanska will draw upon its sustainability credentials and knowledge to achieve BREEAM Excellent rating for the new campus.

Skanska UK reported revenues of approximately SEK 12.7 billion in 2011, with about 4,200 employees. The company is active in building and civil construction, utilities and building services. In the UK, Skanska is also a leader in Public Private Partnerships, PPPs, also known as Privately Financed Initiatives, PFIs. Skanska has also initiated the development of homes for the UK market.
