Skanska awarded SEK 440 M contract at University College of South Stockholm Skanska has been assigned to construct the new main building for the University College of South Stockholm in Flemingsberg. The order is worth approximately SEK 440 M. The new building will have a floor space of 36,500 square meters. "This project is a partnership, based on mutual trust. We selected Skanska because it presented the best overall solution and organizational structure," comments Carl Montgomery, President of the Clara Foundation, which is owned by the Stockholm County Council, the authority responsible for the University College of South Stockholm. "The new University College will give the entire area a boost." "For Skanska, we consider it is very stimulating to be able to participate in the development of this part of Stockholm," says Anders Danielsson, business manager of Skanska Commercial Buildings in Stockholm. White Arkitekter has designed the building, which is to be called "Moas Båge" (Moa's arch) in honor of the Swedish author, Moa Martinsson, who lived in Södertörn. The building will be in the form of semi-circle, with three wings - "Harry", "Ivar" and "August" - names that are also associated with Swedish writers. The University College of South Stockholm aims to achieve full university status by 2003, when it will have approximately 9,000 students. The project will commence immediately, and is scheduled to be ready for occupancy by students at the beginning of the spring term in 2002.
