Skanska building "green" computer center for US Environmental Protection Agency for USD 21 M, SEK 180 M Skanska's US subsidiary Beers has been selected to design and construct the National Computer Center of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Raleigh, North Carolina. The order is valued at USD 21 million, about SEK 180 million. The facility will be designed to reduce the direct and indirect environmental consequences associated with construction, occupancy, operation and maintenance. The use of sustainable design principles will enable the National Computer Center to be certified in accordance with the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Building Rating System. The 10,000 sq. m. EPA National Computer Center will house the Agency's central computers and is scheduled for occupancy in autumn 2001. Beers is currently constructing the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, among other high profile projects. Beers is part of Skanska USA and reported sales in 1999 of SEK 35 billion and at year-end had an order backlog of SEK 67 billion.
