Skanska has signed a contract with the city of Borås to build an elementary school in Borås, Sweden. The contract is worth about SEK 320M, which will be included in the order bookings for Sweden for the first quarter of 2022.

The school, called Fredriksborgsskolan, will constitute the entrance to a planned new city district in Borås. The school building will be three storeys high and cover almost 13,000 square meters in total and in connection there will be a sports hall covering just over 2,000 square meters in size. The school will have capacity for about 850 students from preschool to ninth grade. Special primary school and so-called communication classes, for students with language disorders, will also be housed here.

Fredriksborgsskolan will meet high sustainability requirements. The construction uses Skanska’s green concrete, which has up to halved climate impact compared to ordinary concrete, and the school is equipped with solar panels on the roofs. In addition, recycled cellular plastic is used in the base plate and recycled brick in the facade facing the street. Energy wells are drilled to be able to preheat air and provide cooling during the hot part of the year.

Construction work will start in May this year and the school is expected to be operational well in time for the start of the autumn semester, 2024.
