Skanska continues breakthrough into the U.S. West Coast

Skanska continues breakthrough into the U.S. West Coast - to build San Francisco subway station as part of consortium for a total of USD 45 M Skanska has strengthened its presence on the American West Coast by receiving a contract to construct a subway station in San Bruno, a suburb of San Francisco, California. The order is valued at USD 45 million, about SEK 370 million, and is being carried out in a 60/40 consortium between Tutor-Saliba (60%) and Skanska's subsidiary Slattery Skanska (40%). Skanska's share of the order amounts to approximately SEK 150 million. Slattery Skanska and Tutor-Saliba will be responsible for management of the design-build contract, which was awarded by the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) in San Francisco. The Notice to Proceed with construction was given on Monday, August 16, 1999. The San Bruno station will be linked to the adjacent Tanforan Park shopping center via a new plaza. The project also involves construction of a bus terminal and a parking garage for slightly more than 1,000 vehicles. A rerouting of Huntington Avenue is also part of work scope. In addition, the contract features an option for a building to house the San Bruno police department and BART's own security personnel. This project, which will be decided later this year, is valued at another USD 5.5 million, about SEK 45 million. Slattery Skanska and Tutor-Saliba are currently constructing the new subway line which will link downtown San Francisco with the international airport. Slattery Skanska is responsible for 40% of this project, which is valued at SEK 4 billion. Scheduled to open in December 2001, the line is expected to serve about 70,000 passengers daily.
