Skanska lands another highway contract in the US - Order valued at USD 61 M, about SEK 618 M Skanska's US subsidiary Tidewater Skanska has been contracted to construct a highway in North Carolina, in the US. The order is valued at USD 61 M, about SEK 618 M. The customer is the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The new 12-kilometer-long (7,6 mile) Smith Creek Parkway will link Northeast Cape Fear River bridge with existing roads. It is intended to relieve traffic congestion on the east-west thoroughfare in central Wilmington. Construction will involve a number of bridges and overpasses. The project requires special environmental care since the road passes through sensitive wetlands. The infrastructure market has increased in the US as a result of the major TEA 21 infrastructure investment program. Skanska's documented expertise in the field last year resulted in a number of major contracts, for example in Virginia, South Carolina and New York. In total, Skanska companies in the US are currently working on infrastructure contracts valued at about USD 3.5 billion. The US construction market is expected to increase with 5 per cent this year. Sectors where Skanska is particularly active, e.g. infrastructure, health care and education, are expected to show an even more substantial growth. This is reflected in Skanska's order bookings for last year and the beginning of this year. The Group's order bookings last year amounted to SEK 127 billion, of which 60 billion are referable to the US. The order backlog amounted to SEK 161 billion, of which 94 billion is referable to Skanska's US companies.
