Skanska lands two building contracts in London and Edinburgh worth SEK 840 M Skanska UK has been awarded two design-construct-building projects in London and Edinburgh with a combined value of SEK 840 M. The largest assignment is valued at SEK 580 M (GBP 39 M) and covers the design and construction of a superstructure and façades for an office building in central London. The customer is the Minerva property development company. The fast-track project covers a lettable area of 18,000 square meters and will be handed over floor by floor in a phased operation beginning early next year. This is made possible through a tight construction program in which Skanska will construct the basement levels in parallel with the above ground structure. The building will have ten storeys, including two below ground. The project is scheduled to be fully completed next autumn. The project is being carried out in one of the busiest parts of central London, with the Central Line subway directly beneath. Skanska UK's piling specialist will undertake the ground engineering work. The second project is SEK 260 M (GBP 17.6 M) office and residential scheme in Edinburgh, Scotland. Skanska will be responsible for the design and construction of the superstructure and façades of the office and residential building with a total area of about 9,000 square meters with completion scheduled for September this year. The customer is Fountainbridge Developments, a joint venture between Glasgow-based developer A.B. Hamilton and the Bank of Scotland. Skanska was awarded the contract on the strength of the successful construction of the Bank of Scotland's new corporate headquarters, also in Edinburgh.
