Skanska listed in Dow Jones Index of companies committed to sustainable development Skanska is included among the leading global companies with a commitment to sustainable development. For the second successive year, Skanska features in the Dow Jones Sustainability Group Index of companies that successfully combine high and sustained profitability with long-term sustainable development. In its assessment, Dow Jones places heavy emphasis on the company's management. The Index includes companies in which the management has succeeded in integrating financial, social and environmental aspects into the company's strategy. The rationale is that sustainability-driven companies are able to achieve their goals by conducting their business in a proactive, cost-effective and responsible manner. It follows that the companies selected for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Group Index are pioneering companies with excellent prospects for being among tomorrow's winners. Skanska and the French Groupe GTM are the only construction services companies among the 200 global firms included in the list. "Considering the increasingly tough competition, it is a great honor to continue to be ranked among this select group of global companies. All Skanska employees can take pride in this achievement," says Claes Björk, President and CEO of Skanska. "It also reaffirms that our focus on values such as ethics, the environment, competence and commitment is well-founded and successful. At the same time, we must be aware of the enormity of the responsibility that we are assuming for future development. In this regard, our environmental management systems are vitally important tools." The Dow Jones Sustainability Group Index is based on a detailed analysis of 2,000 companies worldwide. Skanska is now part of the same international family of companies that includes ABB, BMW, Canon, Volvo, Home Depot, Nike, Nokia, Siemens, Honeywell and Deutsche Telecom. The Index includes a total of more than 200 companies that have been scrutinized in five areas that Dow Jones regards as crucial for achieving sustainable development: Technology: Products and services should be based on innovative technical solutions. Management: The highest standards are demanded in this area in terms of organization, corporate culture and market contacts. Shareholders: The company is judged according to its ability to provide a healthy financial return, long-term growth and increased productivity. Industry: The leading companies in a sector should drive the whole of that sector forward toward sustainable development. Society: Sustainability-driven companies should contribute to sustainable welfare by acting in harmony with society's changed needs.
