Skanska receives new environmental contract in New York for USD 554 M, about SEK 3.5 billion

Skanska has been awarded a project to construct a clean water treatment plant in Westchester, New York. The contract amounts to USD 1.1 billion, about SEK 7 billion. Skanska’s share, USD 554 M, approximately SEK 3.5 billion, will be included in order bookings for the first quarter 2008. The customer is the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.

The contract involves construction of a new 15,000-square-meter UV treatment building, the Catskill and Delaware Water Treatment Ultraviolet Light Disinfection Facility, in New York. The facility comprises a building that houses process equipment as well as laboratories and offices. At completion, the facility will produce 7.6 million cubic meters daily of water cleaned using ultraviolet light.

Skanska will be responsible for purchasing and assembly as well as installation of the new equipment. The project includes drainage, foundation laying, structural concrete work, piping and system installation.

Work will begin in spring 2008, with contract duration of four years.

Currently, Skanska is carrying out the expansion of seven water treatment plants in the New York area.

Skanska USA Civil is focused on the construction of traffic infrastructure and facilities for power, water and water treatment. The business unit has about 4,300 employees and operations in the eastern US, Colorado and California. Skanska USA Civil’s revenues amounted to about SEK 9.8 billion in 2006.
