Skanska receives new order worth SEK 452 M, approximately USD 53 M, for Southern Link in Stockholm Skanska has been awarded the contract to construct a further stage in the Southern Link highway project in Stockholm. The order is valued at SEK 452 M, approximately USD 53 M and the customer is the Swedish National Road Administration's Stockholm Region. The contract comprises - in addition to the reconstruction and lowering of approximately 1,500 meters of the Nynäsvägen highway - ramps for the connections with the Southern Link's tunnels in the Globen area. The project includes support walls, concrete tunnels, a grade-separated traffic circle and covered walkways for pedestrians. "We are involved in a large number of projects to improve the infrastructure and communications in Stockholm. We are proud to be entrusted with this, our third project in the extension of the Southern Link, where we are currently carrying out assignments with a total value of SEK 1.1 billion," says Sten-Åke Torefeldt, head of the Underground Construction and Bridges Division. Construction work will commence in the autumn and be completed in summer 2004. Extensive traffic diversions will be required to make it possible for the Nynäsvägen highway to remain open with six lanes during the entire construction period. Around 90,000 vehicles use the Nynäsvägen highway every day. The work will be carried out in stages in order to minimize traffic disruption. The main part of the project will be carried out as a design-construct contract, in which Skanska will contribute solutions and designs, particularly in the case of geotechnology and cement work. The highway construction segment will take the form of a construction contract. The assignment will be carried out jointly by the Underground Construction and Bridges Division and the Road Construction Division, which are parts of Skanska Sweden. Skanska Teknik will provide design solutions.
