Skanska renovates congress and event venue Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Finland, for EUR 88M, about SEK 890M
Skanska has signed a contract with the City of Helsinki to renovate congress and event venue Finlandia Hall located in the center of Helsinki, Finland. The contract is worth EUR 88M, about SEK 890M, which will be included in the Nordic order bookings for the second quarter of 2021.
Finlandia Hall will be repaired and restored from top to bottom and renovated from the plumbing to the façade, while observing the protection the construction enjoys. The light interiors with marble walls, floors of natural stone and grand windows will be renovated to their former glory. Accessibility and lifts will be improved, and new services targeted at consumers will be located in the building. The extensive project totals about 30,700 square meters.
The building was originally designed by architect, academic Alvar Aalto, and it was built in 1971 followed by the congress wing in 1975.
The project will start in June 2021 with a development phase, and the renovation will begin in the first quarter 2022. The completion is scheduled for the third quarter 2024.
