Skanska rises in US ranking - growing four times faster than the market Skanska's American subsidiary Skanska USA is the fourth largest construction-related services company on the American market. Skanska USA rises from fifth to fourth place in the annual ranking of the 400 largest construction companies in the US presented by the US trade publication Engineering News Record. The ranking is based on 1999 sales. The sales figure is solely for the US, that is, adjusted to eliminate any international or non-US contracts. The total sales among the 400 listed companies rose 12 percent from 1998. Skanska USA increased nearly four times faster than the market - sales rose 47 percent to slightly more than SEK 35 billion. During 1999, Skanska USA received new contracts totaling USD 6.4 billion, which places the company among the three best in the US. Skanska is the third largest company within the General Building category - which is the largest segment on the American market. "Naturally, it is pleasing that we are capturing market share, particularly, since Skanska USA at the same time could improve its earnings compared with a year earlier," says Claes Björk, president and CEO of Skanska.
