Skanska's new company in UK awarded London's largest building construction project - to build Swiss RE offices for SEK 1.8 billion The Zurich-based reinsurer Swiss Reinsurance Company (Swiss Re), has awarded Skanska's British subsidiary, Skanska Construction, the contract to construct the company's new offices in London. The contract is valued at GBP 130 million, corresponding to SEK 1.8 billion. Work on the new 40-storey building, which will be one of London's largest ongoing building construction projects, starts immediately and is scheduled for completion during the latter part of 2003. The project became possible after Swiss Re acquired the vacant Baltic Exchange site at St. Mary Axe, London EC. The architect Lord Norman Foster is responsible for the unconventional and original design. The entirely glass-clad, round and pointed building will be 179 meters high, comparable in height to the London's Nat West Tower, known as Tower 42. As a result of acquisitions last year, Skanska is the fifth largest construction services company in the UK.
