Skanska Safety Week is the world’s largest workplace safety event organized by a company. From Monday October 22 to Sunday 28 hundreds of thousands people will be involved in activities focused on workplace safety – Skanska’s 53,000 employees at more than 10,000 worksites in 18 countries, subcontractors, suppliers and business partners.

Skanska Safety Week has been arranged annually for eight years. The theme for Safety Week 2012 is: “Our journey to zero accidents is only possible with you and me taking responsibility”.

All around Skanska group there are teams that achieve zero accidents every day, week after week, month after month, year on year. They do this not just by following the rules but by working together and caring about the safety of those they work with. They take responsibility for their own actions but also by looking out for each other.

Skanska has a strong focus on reducing the number of workplace related accidents. The goal is to eliminate 3 out of 4 lost time accidents by 2015. It is a demanding task but over the last 6 years the lost time accident rate for employees has been reduced by 50 percent worldwide.

There will be thousands of activities held during the safety week at worksites and offices throughout Skanska. These will involve Skanska senior managers, employees as well as subcontractors and business partners. The activities include planning to avoid or manage risks, work at height, rescue techniques and fire training. There will also be activities focusing on health and training in first aid. Further information about the activities will be available as of Monday at www.skanska.com/safetyweek.
