Skanska secures hospital assignment in Oregon valued at USD 37 M, SEK 388 M Skanska's US subsidiary, Baugh, has been awarded a contract for construction management for the expansion and renovation of a hospital in Salem, Oregon, in the US. The contract, which will be included in order bookings for the third quarter of 2001, is valued at USD 37 M, approximately SEK 388 M. The customer is the Hammes Company. The contract covers the first phase of the expansion of Salem Hospital, which serves a large portion of the Salem community. The new five-story building with a basement comprises 18,500 square meters of floor space and will house the hospital's new LDRP (Labor Delivery Recovery Postpartum) and post-natal care facility. Also included is the renovation of a smaller part of the existing hospital that is to remain operational during the entire construction period. Work is to begin during the autumn of 2001 and this phase of the project is scheduled for completion in April 2003. According to Modern Healthcare magazine, an industry trade publication, a major factor in healthcare construction this year was the need for more specialty hospitals, especially those for women and children. The number of projects in the category increased by more than 11 percent, over last year. Baugh Construction, which has been a member of the Skanska Group since 2000, is one of the leading construction services companies in the Pacific Northwestern US. A large percentage of the company's business comes from repeat customers among companies within the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector, the aerospace and electronics industry, as well as retail and the food processing industry.
