Skanska secures Ikea contract worth USD 30 M, SEK 318 M, in Pennsylvania Skanska has been chosen as the construction manager for the new Ikea furniture store in Plymouth Township, near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the US. The contract, which is valued at USD 30 M, or approximately SEK 318 M, has been included in order bookings for the third quarter of 2001. The new Ikea store will replace an existing facility in the Philadelphia area. The construction of the 340,000 square foot (32,000 sq.meter) facility will be double the size of the former. The new retail facility will feature 75 room displays and three full-scale model homes, as well as a restaurant, children's play area, and underground parking. The 23.6- acre (10 hectare) site will also provide 1,400 dedicated parking spaces. The project will be undertaken jointly by Skanska's US subsidiaries Sordoni Skanska and Barclay White Skanska. Construction will begin this autumn, with completion scheduled for the fall of 2002. Skanska and Ikea have been cooperating with each other since the 1970s in Sweden and Germany, among other countries. During the past few years, Skanska has also constructed Ikea stores in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Russia, where the second Ikea store is currently being built in the Moscow area.
