Skanska secures US highway contract valued at SEK 715 M

Skanska secures US highway contract valued at SEK 715 M Skanska has received a contract to construct a new highway in North Carolina, in the US. The contract is valued at SEK 715 M (USD 94 M) and the customer is the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The contract will be included in order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2003. The project involves an 8.3-km extension of Interstate I-485 beltway, the Charlotte Outer Loop. This includes 20 bridges and 12 box culverts in addition to all the usual aspects of roadbuilding - groundwork, environmental work and safety and signal installations. Work on the project will commence immediately and is scheduled to be completed within 3.5 years. The project will be carried out by the Skanska USA Civil unit, Tidewater Skanska. Skanska USA Civil operates throughout the USA and focuses on civil engineering construction - primarily energy and transport infrastructure and environmental projects. The company has 5,000 employees and sales of about SEK 13 billion (2002). Skanska is currently constructing the USD 63 M (about SEK 480 M) Smith Creek Parkway in Wilmington, NC, for the same customer. In Charlotte, NC, Skanska USA Civil is also working on a project valued at USD 26.7 M (about SEK 205 M) to build a phosphorous reduction facility at the McAlpine Creek Wastewater Maintenance Facility.
