Skanska secures USD 164.7 million, SEK 1.4 billion, contract to construct train maintenance facility in New York Skanska is to design and construct a maintenance facility for subway cars in New York. The contract is worth USD 164.7 M, or slightly more than SEK 1.4 billion, and the customer is New York City Transit. The contract is included in order bookings for the first quarter of 2003. The new contract is for the construction of the Corona Maintenance Shop and a separate Car Wash Facility in the Borough of Queens in New York City, where railcars will be serviced and maintained. The project comprises a 9,000-square-meter (100,000-sf) facility with five tracks for servicing trains, as well as offices on the two upper floors. The assignment encompasses all work, including the technical service and maintenance equipment. The project also includes some four kilometers (12,000-ft) of railway tracks, together with the associated power and signal installation. Skanska USA Civil's Slattery Skanska and Underpinning & Foundation units are responsible for implementation of the project, which is to start immediately and is scheduled to be completed in 43 months. The new contract is the ninth assignment of this type in New York to be awarded to Skanska USA Civil. The infrastructure sector in the US continues to show a strong level of activity.
