Skanska selected to construct two sports arenas in US totaling USD 90 M Skanska's US subsidiary, Beers Skanska, has secured the contracts to design and construct two sports arenas valued at a total of USD 90 M, approximately SEK 920 M. One of these contracts is for an indoor arena for the University of South Carolina, while the other is for the enclosure and extension of the Olympic outdoor swimming pool in Atlanta for the Georgia Institute of Technology. These contracts have been included in the order bookings for the first quarter of 2001. The new, approximately 33,000-square-meter Student Athletic Complex at the Georgia Institute of Technology, includes enclosure of the Olympic outdoor swimming pool used in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The new facility will feature a basketball court, a 200-meter athletics track, six courts for aerobics and racquetball, bleacher stands, locker room facilities and a food court. In this complex assignment, Beers Skanska will collaborate with the Hastings Chivetta Architecture firm. The project, worth USD 43 M, will commence in the autumn and is scheduled for completion in 36 months. Beers Skanska has also been selected to construct a new indoor arena at the University of South Carolina in Columbia for USD 47 M. The 33,000- square-meter, with 18,000 seats and 41 luxury suites, will be the largest indoor sports, entertainment and cultural facility in South Carolina. The arena will be home to the Columbia Inferno ice-hockey team and the university's basketball teams. Work will commence during the spring and is scheduled for completion in October 2002.
