Skanska to acquire asphalt companies for SEK 212 M, will become second largest private asphalt company in Finland Skanska's Finnish subsidiary, Skanska Finland Oy, has acquired two Finnish asphalt companies. The combined purchase price totals FIM 150 M, approximately SEK 212 M. The family-owned company, Sata-Asfaltti Oy, which was founded in 1976, had sales in 1999 of FIM 64 M, approximately SEK 90 M. The company has 78 employees at five plants in Finland. The company was acquired as of March 22, 2000. Earlier this year, Skanska acquired the asphalt operations within Savatie Oy, which in 1998 had sales of FIM 90 M, approximately SEK 127 M. The company has 100 employees. The company was acquired as of February 16. Skanska's asphalt companies now have a market share of 15 percent and, consequently, becomes the second largest private asphalt company in Finland. The Finnish asphalt market is expected to grow in the next few years. The acquisitions will have a positive effect on Skanska's net earnings in 2000. "Through the acquisitions of these efficiently managed and profitable companies, we can improve service to our customers within the asphalt sector. We can now offer our services throughout Finland," says Mauri Niemi, President of Skanska Finland Oy.
