Skanska to build railway extension in Argentina for ARS 190 M, about SEK 300 M

Skanska has been awarded the contract to build a railway extension from the province of Neuquén to the Port of Bahía Blanca, province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The contract is a joint venture with local companies Chediack and Milicic. The total amount of the contract is ARS 570 M, about SEK 917 M, out of which Skanska’s share is 33.4 percent, amounting to a total of ARS190 M, about SEK 300 M. The order will be included in order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2011. The customer is Potasio Río Colorado S.A., a local affiliate of Vale, a Brazilian mining company that operates in 38 countries.

Skanska will be responsible for civil works including embankment, drainage and pavement on an 83 kilometer extension of the railway that also involves 29 bridges.

The project is scheduled to begin in February 2012 and will be completed in the first quarter of 2014. About 600 workers will be involved once the project reaches its peak.
