Skanska to construct a combined sewer overflow treatment facility in Atlanta in project valued at USD 47 M (SEK 340 M)

Skanska has been awarded the contract for construction of a new combined sewer overflow plant in Atlanta, Georgia. The contract amount of USD 47 M (SEK 340 M) is included in order bookings for the third quarter. The customer is the City of Atlanta.

The assignment relates to the West Area Combined Sewer Overflow Treatment Plant, which is being constructed to improve treatment of sewage and storm water in west Atlanta. Skanska will be carrying out large-scale civil engineering work, including basins and landscaping work, as well as constructing the buildings to house the facility’s control and operations centers. The project also includes extensive installations of process equipment, piping and electrical and regulatory systems. Work will begin in September and is scheduled to be completed in the end of 2007. The facility will have a capacity of 322,000 cubic meters per day (85 million gallons per day) and will be linked to the West Area Tunnel, a planned reservoir designed to handle high flows of storm water. The treatment plant will be constructed by Skanska USA Civil’s unit Atlantic Skanska, which within the last year has secured three water treatment plant projects in the Greater Atlanta area, with a combined value of USD 103 M. Atlantic Skanska is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and is engaged in civil engineering construction projects in the southeastern US. Skanska USA Civil specializes in such infrastructure projects as construction of bridges, highways, power generation and public transit systems as well as water treatment and water pollution control plants.
