Skanska to construct and lease out new police headquarters in Uppsala for approximately SEK 370 M Skanska is developing, constructing and leasing out a new property for the police, prosecution and prison and probation authorities in central Uppsala, Sweden. The total project value is SEK 370 M, approximately USD 35 M. Based on the needs of the public authorities, Skanska developed a total solution, including an attractive site and a lease arrangement through a newly established, wholly owned Skanska company to lease out the premises. Skanska is also responsible for the design, construction, operation, maintenance and management of the approximately 24,000-sq. m. building. A 15-year lease has been signed with the three authorities. "We chose Skanska for this assignment because of the attractive total solution, economically and design," says Göran Lindberg, County Police Commissioner. "We also place major importance on hiring a contractor that guarantees ethically correct implementation throughout the process, including its relations with subcontractors." The ten-story building has been designed to fit into the city landscape. It will be constructed at the Svartbäcksgatan-Råbyvägen intersection. The project design phase for the building has been started and will continue until mid-year 2002. Construction work will begin as soon as all official approvals have been given. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2003 after a construction period of 22 months. In a similar project, Skanska has earlier developed and constructed premises for the police, prosecution and prison and probation authorities in Växjö. Skanska has also constructed a new facility for the police and prosecution authority and the National Swedish Laboratory of Forensic Science in Linköping.
