Skanska to construct phase of Mälarbanan for about SEK 400M
Skanska and the Swedish Transport Administration have signed an agreement for the expansion of Mälarbanan between Spånga and Barkarby, north of Stockholm. The contract is worth about SEK 400 million and will be included in the order bookings for Skanska Sweden for the first quarter of 2016.
The project is a turnkey contract covering the expansion of Mälarbanan from two to four tracks on a three-kilometer section as well as a new platform. Commuter trains will have two separate tracks, while other trains will pass freely on the two outer tracks. When the entire expansion of Mälarbanan between Tomteboda and Kallhäll is completed in 2025 it will be easier to take the train with more departures to choose from and easier to arrive on time.
Construction start of preparatory work is planned for the summer 2016 and the project is expected to be fully completed during 2019.
The expansion will employ approximately 65 people at Skanska, including 8 new employees. Skanska has since 2012 carried out several assignments for the Transport Administration in the project Mälarbanan, including two bridges and an underground excavation.
