Skanska to construct shipping channel in the Czech Republic for SEK 305 M

Skanska has been contracted to construct a shipping channel in the Czech Republic. The contract amount is CZK 1.8 billion, SEK 586 M, of which Skanska’s share amounts to 52 percent, corresponding to SEK 305 M. Skanska’s share of the contract amount will be included in order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2006.

The customer is the Czech Republic Waterways Directorate. The project is being financed with a grant from the state infrastructure fund.

The assignment covers construction of a 3.2-kilometer-long and 57-meter-wide shipping channel on the Elbe River near the city of Přelouč. The project also includes the construction of a ship lock and anti-flood bridges. The new channel will enable navigation along the river to the city of Pardubice east of Prague.

The project is being conducted in a consortium with the Czech company OHL ŽS. Work on the project will commence in the spring of 2007 and is scheduled for completion in June 2011.

Skanska Czech Republic, which is the largest construction company in the Czech Republic, had sales of approximatly SEK 10 billion in 2005. The company has some 7,400 employees.
