Skanska to expand Modo Paper's Husum mill for nearly SEK 400 M Skanska has received two assignments for Modo Paper's paper mill in Husum, north of Örnsköldsvik in northern Sweden. The contract is valued at nearly SEK 400 M. The customer is Modo Paper AB. One assignment involves construction of a new building and machinery foundation for a new coating machine that is part of Modo's focus on high- quality coated paper. This order is valued at slightly more than SEK 300 M. The building, measuring 280x60x25 meters, is to be completed already on December 1, 2000 when machinery installation will begin. The coating machine is scheduled for start-up in March 2001. The other assignment involves rebuilding around the existing PM8 paper machine. This work, which will start immediately, will mostly be carried out during ongoing operations. The rebuild is scheduled for completion in spring 2001. Skanska and Modo have signed a cooperation agreement for implementation of the assignments whereby the companies assume joint responsibility for completion. "Through the cooperation agreement we gain new possibilities to contribute our competence at an early stage," says Carl Sundström, District Manager at Skanska in Örnsköldsvik. "In this manner we better assist the customer in developing the most effective solutions." The assignments will involve building, road and civil engineering work and will be carried out by Skanska's Industry, Environment and Energy (IME) unit in northern Sweden, with specialized skills to serve industry. Skanska and Modo have completed a large number of projects together since 1936. The most recent was Skanska's involvement in the rebuilding of the PM/ paper machine in 1999.
