Skanska to expand shopping center in Dubai for GBP 25 M, SEK 360 M Skanska has secured a contract to design and expand the Bur Juman international shopping center in Dubai. The order is valued at GBP 25 M, approximately SEK 360 M, and the customer is the Bur Juman Centre LLC, which is part of the Saif Al Ghurair Group. The superstructure contract was signed following negotiations, after Skanska had successfully bid for the project's deep substructure work. The factors that favored Skanska were innovative and technical solutions that will save time and costs. The total expansion of 275,000 square meters comprises a four-story shopping center, with two high rise apartment towers and an office tower above. The facility will have a four-level basement car park, 13 meters below the water table. A completely watertight foundation system will be used for the first time in the United Arab Emirates. The project is to be completed in 19 months. Implementation of the project will be the responsibility of the subsidiaries Skanska Cementation International and Skanska Technology, both part of Skanska UK, which was acquired in 2000.
