Skanska to manage hospital construction project in Egypt for USD 55 M Skanska will provide Pre-Construction and Construction Management Services for a Hospital in Cairo, Egypt. The value of the project is USD 55 million. The client is the Egyptian organization AFNCI, Association of Friends of the National Cancer Institute. The new 160 bed Pediatric Oncology Hospital will have an area of 260,000 square foot, about 26.000 square meter. The hospital will be designed and built in phased packages. The design work is to be finalized in 12 months. The Construction starts next year with completion in the middle of 2003. The assignment is an example of Skanska's ability to give customers access to the Group's global competence. Both Zurich-based Skanska International and Skanska's Atlanta-based American subsidiary Beers Construction Company will take part in the project. Skanska International has since 1970 executed several hospital projects on turnkey basis in Africa, the Middle East and the Far East. At present Skanska International has the design/build responsibility for a hospital on Malta worth more than SEK 2 billion. For Beers, which will be involved in the preconstructionphase, this is the first project in the African continent. As a builder of hospital facilities for over five decades, Beers is among the top ten largest hospital construction managers in the US.
