Skanska upgrades rail network in southern England for GBP 165M, about SEK 1.9 billion
Skanska has, in alliance with Aecom, Colas Rail and Mott MacDonald, been awarded a contract by Network Rail to design and construct the Waterloo and South West Upgrade on the South West Trains network in the South of England. The total contract value is GBP 453M. Skanska will include its part of the contract, worth GBP 165M, about SEK 1.9 billion, in the order bookings for Skanska UK in the fourth quarter of 2016.
The project includes full design and construction to bring back the Waterloo International Terminal into use, platform modifications at Waterloo station and improvements to the outlying stations and rail systems.
The Wessex Route is part of the South Western Rail network connecting the terminal at Waterloo station, one of the UK’s busiest station, to the south coast and the rail connections in between, delivering better connections for millions of passengers.
With an emphasis on innovation, sustainability and collaboration, the alliance team, in partnership with Network Rail, brings together international expertise to deliver an enhanced railway that will increase capacity by 30 percent and protect the network for the future.
Work started in November and the project will completed in April 2019.
Skanska UK reported revenues of about SEK 18 billion in 2015. It has around 5,500 employees. The company is active in building and civil construction, utilities and building services, as well as facilities management and commercial development.
