Skanska wins two more tunneling contracts in the UK Skanska portion is GBP 112 M, about SEK 1.5 billion Skanska has won two major tunneling contracts on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in central London. The contracts are valued at GBP 265 M, of which Skanska's share of these projects amounts to GBP 112 million, or SEK 1,592 M. The customer is Union Railways. The project is being carried out in two consortiums. The contracts cover a total of 12.2 km of tunnels on either side of the kilometer-long Stratford Box, which was awarded to Skanska last month. These latest contracts, which are part of the second phase of this massive scheme, mean Skanska is now involved in four major civil engineering projects on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link totaling GBP 500 M, about SEK 7 billion. The largest of the two new awards is worth GBP 145 M and is being implemented in a 50/50 joint venture between Cementation Skanska and Japanese Nishimatsu. The project involves 7.5 km of twin bored tunnels, which will be the longest tunnels on the entire high-speed route. Each tunnel will be 7.15 meters in diameter and will be lined with precast concrete segments. The project starts on site in July 2001 and is due for completion in 2005. The second contract, valued at GBP 120 M, is being constructed by a consortium comprising Skanska, British Costain and Bachy Soletanche of France. Skanska's portion is 33 percent. Work includes 4.7 km of twin bored tunnels and two major ventilation shafts. This project is due for completion in summer 2004.
