New seal bearing unit from SKF for water scooters SKF has developed a new concept, a unit for water jet scooters, that solves the problems of motor oil leakage and water penetration. By combining the company's expertise in bearings and seals technology, SKF has been able to present a solution that has facilitated Bombardier Rotax, Austria, in the development of a new generation of high performance engines for water scooters. The new application required a seal/bearing, between the drive shaft of the jet stream turbine and the engine, that can absorb the engine's movements during operation. SKF's concept includes seal, bearing, bearing housing, mounting sleeve, and a bellow with incorporated splashguard. The solution corresponds to Bombardier's requirements of a unit that is easy to mount and has performance and technology fulfilling the high demands on resistance against corrosion, high temperatures and vibrations. SKF has in this way developed a concept that gives the customer significant added value and initiates a new business for the Group. Göteborg, October 22, 2001 Aktiebolaget SKF (publ.)
