SKF and ContiTech launches unique system for railway bogies SKF and ContiTech have together developed a unique system for railway bogies that substantially reduces maintenance needs and costs. The solution is an integration of rubber springs and hydraulic dampers into the axlebox. The new axlebox suspension system, designed for freight cars with 25 tons axle load, is dimensioned for a maintenance interval of 1 million km - which corresponds to 10 years of use. The new solution offers lower noise levels and less wear. This achievement has been reached by combining the know-how of both partners. The new system will be presented at the international railway exhibition InnoTrans in September in Berlin. SKF and ContiTech have signed a partnership agreement to develop products for the railway industry. SKF is the leading rolling bearing supplier to the world railway industry, providing a full assortment of bearing related products and services for all types of railway vehicles such as freight cars, locomotives, multiple units and high speed vehicles. ContiTech Air Spring Systems is a manufacturer of components and complete systems for self-regulating air springs in commercial vehicles, buses, rail vehicles as well as stationary machines and foundations.
