Professor Tom Stephenson, Head of Cranfield School of Applied Science, says: “Every year we select a small number of individuals to receive honorary degrees by the University. We are honouring Dr Tom Johnstone for his outstanding contribution in global manufacturing, as a living example of how the University brings research into real world situations, whilst attending to the sustainability agenda.”

“I am honoured and delighted to receive this degree from a university that is recognised globally for its contribution to research within the manufacturing sector, especially in the engineering field, and its commitment to sustainability. I strongly believe that manufacturing, product development and sustainability should be an integral part in any long term strategy of a company and it is excellent that this is recognised with the programmes offered by Cranfield University”, says Tom Johnstone.

Tom Johnstone has successfully advanced initiatives to integrate sustainability into SKF’s long term strategy and performance. SKF’s leading performance in sustainability is recognized globally with the inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes since 2000 and the FTSE4Good Index Series since 2001 when the indexes were first introduced.
