SKF secures major order from world's biggest wind turbine producer SKF is consolidating its position as a supplier to the wind power industry. The Vestas Group of Denmark, the world's biggest wind turbine manufacturer, has selected SKF as the main supplier of bearings for its wind turbines. The two-year agreement covers deliveries of bearings to Vestas' plants worldwide. As a result of this order, the Vestas Group will become the biggest single customer of the large-bearing unit at the Göteborg factory. Bearings of six different sizes are required to suit wind turbines of three different power ratings. - In-depth technical expertise, short delivery times and good service are the main competitive advantages that led to the choice of SKF, says Helene Richmond, SKF's Sales Area Director, Nordic Region. SKF has made a determined effort to shorten the time from order confirmation to delivery, a factor that is of decisive importance to customers in the wind energy sector. - This is an important deal for SKF, and wind energy is becoming an important business area for us. We have also been highly successful as component supplier to companies that produce gearboxes and generators for wind power plants, says Helene Richmond. The wind energy market has grown strongly within a short time and offers interesting potential for SKF. While the market is expected to grow by 20-25 percent per year, SKF's sales have increased by more than 60 percent during the first nine months of the year.
