SkogsElmia 2011 will be the biggest, most in-demand forestry fair in the Nordic region
After a long, cold and energy-intensive winter, SkogsElmia is even more topical now than ever before. Opening on 26 May, it is also this year’s biggest forestry fair in the Nordic region.
The demo fair focuses on private forest owners but even for forestry officials and contractors, SkogsElmia is the year’s most important meeting place and a source of inspiration, knowledge and the latest innovations.
Rising prices for oil and electricity are causing increased demand for forest fuels of all kinds. Exhibitors of everything from wood splitters and boilers to processes for firewood production and biofuel harvesting are highly sought after by forest owners and other interested parties.
Producing more biofuel requires new technology, for example smaller harvesters and forwarders. Not only do these rationalise clearing and thinning operations, they also make the forest a more attractive workplace for young people. The leading makers of small-scale professional machines are exhibiting at SkogsElmia.
In terms of full-size machines, two world firsts are being presented. One is a forwarder from Ponsse in the biggest category, 20 tonnes. The other is a new harvester, the T-Bear, from a new Swedish machine manufacturer.
Soft values are increasingly important in the forest. They include advanced computer support programs, planning tools, and an expanding service sector, as well as the greater involvement of women forest owners in managing their own timber stands. There is also growing interest in purchasing forest land. Exhibitors at SkogsElmia include real estate agents specialising in forest properties, banks, and suppliers of forest management software, as well as the gender equality consultants Add Gender.
“SkogsElmia offers a unique breadth of services and products for the forest industry,” says the fair’s project manager Per Jonsson. “Everything is available here that the various types of forest professionals are looking for, and as always, the fair is also a terrific opportunity to enjoy meeting friends and colleagues.”

Scandinavia’s leading venue for the future forestry
At SkogsElmia forest owners, entrepreneurs and machine suppliers meet during a few intense, but entertaining days to share opinions and try out news, prepare investment decisions and make interesting connections. SkogsElmia will of course be arranged outdoors – in the forest – on the same estate as in 2007, about 30 km South of Jönköping, Sweden.
