Skoodat Image app needs your vote on Facebook to win international competition

August 1, 2011 — Chattanooga, TN — Salesforce.com has been on a quest to find the best new app built on its Force.com cloud platform. Today, Skoodat Image, a new app from Chattanooga-based Skoodat, was named to the Top 16 in the prestigious AppQuest ’11 global competition.

Skoodat’s innovative mobile-social app enables users to shoot a picture with a mobile phone and instantly view it on a map within any application built on the Force.com platform. For example, The Chalmers Center for Economic Development has recently put Skoodat Image into action.

The Chalmers Center is a research and training organization that equips the local church with economic development tools that holistically impact the global poor. Chalmers Center needed a way to easily track attendance at their global training centers and provide instant visual and data-driven verification to staff and donors. With Skoodat Image, the trainer simply snaps a picture of the students with a smartphone and the image is viewable instantly, along with global positioning data, timestamps and a map showing the location where the photo was taken. Users can also post images to the system by sending them in an email. Even better, the image data is stored within the same cloud platform Chalmers Center uses to track its other program information, a highly customized version of Skoodat Village called Asset CRM.

While Skoodat has been very focused on helping education organizations like Chalmers Center solve difficult data problems, Skoodat Image appeals to other industries too.

According to Skoodat CEO Ken McElrath, “I can see this being used by any kind of organization. In fact, I had a little fun using it to map the cheapest gas prices around the city with my iPhone. I can imagine the service industry using Skoodat Image in a number of ways, for instance, visually documenting completed repairs and seeing them on a map in real time. There are hundreds of possibilities I could mention, but you get the picture.”

This week only, the fate of Skoodat’s app will be in the hands of the online community, as Stage 2 of the competition will determine the Top 8 based on the number of “likes” for Skoodat Image on the AppQuest Facebook page. To ensure fair polling results, voters must first “like” the AppQuest page on Facebook, then find and “like” the Skoodat Image posting on AppQuest’s Facebook Wall. The final winner of the AppQuest ’11 contest will be chosen on stage at Dreamforce ’11 during the last week of August.
