Peckham has undergone a huge regeneration since the early 2000s and is still becoming a more popular residential area, according to leading South London estate agent Wooster & Stock. Improvements to transport links and local amenities, environmental grants such as the Peckham Low Carbon initiative and a new wave of hip residents are all making SE15 an attractive place to live and have helped property prices to rise steadily.

Becky Munday, Head of Sales, Wooster & Stock, comments: “Peckham has changed almost beyond recognition the past few years. There is a thriving farmers’ market, an award-winning library and the growing possibility that Peckham will have a Tube station by 2020.

“Increasingly too, Peckham is feeling more and more like central London, particularly now that the Shard rises higher over the Bellenden skyline each day. While London Bridge may only be a ten minute train ride away,* the leafy green parks and the vibrant and multicultural high street, allow Peckham to retain a more relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. Even a few celebrities are starting to call South East London home, with radio DJs, comedians and fashionistas relishing the trendy, low-key vibe.”

Helen Towler, a 34-year-old teacher, now based in Kuwait, bought a new build duplex apartment in the former North Peckham estate in 2005. She comments: “A friend and I were both looking to buy property at the time, so we pooled our resources and purchased an apartment in Chandler Way via a ‘friends mortgage’. As a new build it was great, as we had no maintenance or upkeep issues and as we bought off plan, we were able to choose the kitchen and general décor.

“The biggest plus however, was that the area was beginning to undergo extensive regeneration. The council had pulled down the old estate tower blocks, a new crop of independent cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques began to open their doors and the local residents have really pulled together to create a friendly multicultural community, celebrated with street parties and village fetes.

“In addition, Burgess Park which is down the road from the apartment, is undergoing a multi-million pound regeneration project and is quickly becoming one of London’s best parks, with an annual Latino festival that everyone loves.

“Peckham has really lost it’s “ghetto” reputation and is becoming a family-friendly neighbourhood.”

Helen’s two-bedroom Chandler Way duplex offers contemporary living with convenience. The split level apartment features three bathrooms, a balcony and a dramatic 30 metre-long open plan living area. The light filled property also offers magnificent views of the London Eye and New Year’s Eve fireworks on the Thames from the kitchen – perfect for entertaining.

Commuters also have a variety of transport options on the doorstep. A number of bus services run to Elephant and Castle tube and Oxford Street, while Peckham Rye train station (approximately a ten minute walk from Chandler Way) has frequent services to London Victoria and London Bridge, with an average journey time of only 15 minutes.*

Helen adds: “My husband and I are looking to return to the UK soon and we really love the area dubbed ‘West Peckham’ by locals. We really miss South East London and can’t wait to come back and build our life there.”

Helen’s elegant apartment is currently on the market for £285,000 with Wooster & Stock. For details, please visit www.woosterstock.co.uk or call:
