TV personality and radio DJ, Rickie Haywood-Williams, has bought his first home, a £300,000 south London love nest for him and his girlfriend, reveals leading south London estate agency Wooster & Stock. His move reflects the growing trend of Londoners heading south-bound, due to the area’s comparatively low house prices*, close proximity to central London** and the hip vibes of the area’s pubs clubs, restaurants and flourishing high streets.

Rickie, 31, recently purchased the South Norwood, SE25, eco-home after deciding he had had enough of renting. Rickie sites the increased cost of living in central London and the more relaxed atmosphere in south London as the reason for the move.

“I was renting a super sleek pad in Islington and while I loved its location and modern style, I really wanted a place of my own. But to afford to buy, I felt I had to look at least 20 to 30 minutes outside the capital.

“Having grown up in south London, this would be the perfect opportunity to look for a contemporary house whilst remaining close to my family and my roots. I contacted Wooster & Stock with my requirements and this fab house was, I think, the second property they showed me.

“It just ticked all the boxes. It was modern, spacious, secluded and quiet, yet a simple commute from central London. It was also ready to move straight into which is great as I’m not the handyman type.”

Rickie’s home benefits from two bedrooms and a large open plan living area with additional mezzanine living space. There is also a private courtyard accessible via both bedrooms and the master bedroom is coupled with an exquisite en-suite wet room.

In addition, there is a high tech CCTV system that can be controlled from anywhere in the world and Rickie’s home also boasts a state of the art heat recovery ventilation system, which amongst other things, can save him up to 70 per cent on heating bills.

Rickie says: “While eco-credentials weren’t a priority when I was initially looking, I now find them incredibly valuable, particularly as they will help to keep my expenses down.

“It’s great because I love my tech and this way I can have more gadgets running, for less cost,” he adds.

After experiencing a busy summer travelling across the country for music festivals and E4’s Pop Up Pop Quiz, in addition to his regular DJ work on Kiss FM, Rickie is looking forward to spending more time at home with his partner, a south London estate agent.

“Things will quieten down now, at least TV-wise,” says Rickie. “But I’m secretly looking forward to coming home to my very own place and relaxing after a busy year and spending our first Christmas here.”

Luke Bishop from Wooster & Stock comments: “A property of this specification, style and square footage in a comparatively central and trendy part of London, such as Hoxton, costs an average of £564,692 which is almost twice the price of Rickie’s new house.***

“This shows what fantastic value for money this part of London is, particularly with train links into London Bridge station in just 15 minutes.”**
