When Andrea Reidy OBE bought her first house in Choumert Road, Peckham Rye, SE15, 25 years ago, she had recently returned from 14 years in South America and was just starting her brilliant career in the Foreign Office.

At the time, Andrea was blissfully unaware that her career would take her on an extraordinary journey to become Consul General for Northern Iraq (2006-2007), Her Majesty’s Ambassador in Eritrea (2008 – 2010), Deputy High Commissioner in Sierra Leone (2000-2002), First Secretary Political in Baghdad (2004-2005), Head of UK office in the CPA, Baghdad (2003-2004, for which she was awarded her OBE), and to also serve in Slovakia and Mexico.

“I loved my Peckham house.” Andrea reminisces. “At the time, it was generally considered by my colleagues to be too far from Whitehall to be practical, as it wasn’t on the high speed Overground link* in those days. But my daughter and I called it our ‘Peckham Palace,’ and to us it was a big, green oasis away from the pressure and mayhem of central London and work.

“Choumert Road is still a leafy haven in a very quiet street. You can hardly believe it’s Peckham. It’s more like Kent than London really, but it is so convenient now you can get from there to central London in about ten minutes on the new Overground link.* Peckham is such a busy, thriving and regenerated hub now, it’s delightful really, bursting with artists’ studios, wine bars, restaurants and of course the wonderful market.”

Despite the continuing price rises in Peckham, Andrea is selling her spacious period house through Peckham’s leading estate agent, GJM Gareth James Property.

Andrea’s ‘Peckham Palace’ is a four bedroom early Victorian house, standing four storeys high with an 82 foot rear garden. Unusually, with a second entrance door on the lower ground floor, the house also has the flexibility to use this floor of the house as a separate, self-contained, two bedroom flat.

The house is light, bright and well presented, with original features including sash windows, period fireplaces and wooden flooring. It is located in one of Peckham’s most desirable streets within the Holly Grove Conservation Area

Andrea’s house is on the market for £1,195,000 with GJM Gareth James Property. For further information telephone: 020 7732 4330 or go on www.gjmproperty.co.uk
