Skydda Protecting People hailed internationally -The company has been bestowed with three Red Dot design awards
The Ulricehamn based company Skydda Protecting People, the Nordic region's largest supplier of personal protective equipment, has been acclaimed three times with the world's leading product design accolade, the "Red Dot design award". The award is a major global quality acclamation for first class design. This year's Red Dot saw more companies than ever before vying for the coveted title. Three of Skydda's home-grown brands have been rewarded: Guide for its CPN protective gloves, Zekler for the Nordic Line collection of protective eyewear and Cresto for its ResQ DD rescue and evacuation equipment.
The Red Dot design award is referred to as the Nobel prize for design. This year there were 4,815 contributions from 54 countries. The renowned international jury presented Guide, Zekler and Cresto with the award for the best product design.
First-class product development
Since the company was formed in 1976, Skydda has developed personal protective equipment for industry and the construction sector. As the market leader in the Nordic region, Skydda is known for its expertise and for providing effective solutions that contribute to a safer workplace. A significant element of Skydda's offering consists of concepts and products under individual brands that have been developed in house and are today recognised globally with sales in approximately 30 countries.
Within all of Skydda's brands there is a strong focus on innovation and function based on the stringent demands placed by professional users in Skydda's Nordic core markets.
- Compared internationally, we are a small company with a small product development team, but we have a high level of innovation when it comes to making products that challenge EN standards, provide additional benefit to the user and set new trends in the market," says Mikael Malmgren, CEO of Skydda.
The Red Dot winners, Guide, Zekler and Cresto constitute three out of Skydda's four in-house developed concepts and brands.
The winning contributions
Guide CPN protective gloveGuide CPN is a collection of protective gloves that offer protection against cutting, puncture and needle injuries at a level that far exceeds current EN standards. This is the second year in succession that Guide has won a Red Dot design award.
Zekler Nordic Line protective eyewear
Zekler Nordic Line is a collection of protective eyewear with three models in three different sizes to suit different face shapes and minimise any gaps, thereby offering greater protection for the eyes.
Cresto ResQ DD rescue equipment
ResQ DD is rescue and evacuation equipment used for wind turbines, for example. This technology makes it possible to cope with dynamic weight loads of up to 282 kg and heights up to 600 metres, exceeding current EN standards.
- "One key parameter in the success is the close cooperation that we have with professional users where we listen to the market and test our products during the development process. We put a great deal of emphasis on functional design and it is a tremendous honour to be recognised internationally for our work," says Mikael Malmgren.
The Red Dot awards are presented in Germany on 7 July at Essen's Aalto Opera Theatre. During the summer, the products from Guide, Zekler and Cresto will be represented in a special exhibition at Red Dot's design museum together with other prize-winning products. The winning exhibits will then be moved to a year-long permanent exhibition. The exhibition is the world's largest display of contemporary design.
